SRN 1108-9 (Verticals, Naunton, Glos.)
Two for the price of one, this month. The dials, dated 1748, have
clearly been repainted many times, and though the delineation has strayed
disastrously, they still have charm. The west dial shows the hour
lines as heavy rain from a russet storm cloud; and the south dial uses the
same earthy colour to form what can be seen as an unsettling face with
widely separated staring eyes above an all-engulfing mouth.
