A recent stainless steel dial on the walls of the ARCO building at Keble.
The shape of the gnomon is inspired by a turbine blade, reflecting the
engineering connections of the building. It has a hole nodus but there
are no apparent declination lines. In fact the spot of light from the
nodus falls on the tip of the noon hour line at the summer solstice.
There appear to be no mottoes or signature, but look closely (when you are
there) and you will see that the 6am hour line is inscribed 'Fear no more
the heat o'the sun'. 4pm carries 'To good Fellowship', and on the
upper side of one of the hour lines (out of view), is the name of the maker,
David Harber. The dial plate is formed by a raised section of the
brick wall. All these features combine to give a pleasingly simple
dial with hidden depths.
