This remarkable dial has until recently escaped detection by recorders.  It was reported by our member Dick Worley, and stands in the stable yard of a Victorian National Trust property, Tyntesfield House in Wraxall, Somerset.  The cube dial is set on a spirally carved column of red sandstone with a curious capital of what look like bulrushes, and is topped by an elaborate wrought iron decoration.  All four faces have intact bronze gnomons, and, unusually, bronze numerals set into the stone.  The column has two horizontal water jets, and stands in a large fountain basin, currently dry.  The whole was designed by Henry Woodyer, who handled the last big remodelling of the house and grounds, and was installed around 1890.
