A general view of this interesting dial

Sundial on The Old Grammar School, Hawkshead, Cumbria

I have a lesson for all who have eyes,

And a motto for all who will learn.

And the value of hours discern.

VERTICAL WALL DIAL - Vertical dials are dials that are set upon a vertical face, normally a wall or building.

They generally face due South, in which case they are classed as 'Direct South Dials'.
