An elaborate
church dial by George Boulby, a local
stonemason. It is unusual to have
city names and times on a vertical, but
this example shows 20 places, from
Calcutta in the early morning to
Portobello, Charlestown (I think - it is
hard to read) at about 5:30pm. Add
to this seven declination lines and
'32-point compass' azimuths from SE by E
to SW by W and we have an unusual dial
for a village church. Boulby made
the icosahedral dial at nearby Walton
Hall, SRN 0167, which also carries the
names and times for twenty cities.
If anyone would report on that one in
detail, I would be very interested,
particularly in the city names shown.
